This was the last chance to see Lynn Morris’s moving one-woman play about Ada Salter. It tells the inspiring story of Ada’s early years in Bermondsey and the tragedy of losing her only daughter to scarlet fever. The show was completely sold out, and Lynn’s brilliant performance received a standing ovation from her enthusiastic audience.
The performance was filmed by Olivier Stockman and is now available on his Sands Films website or on Eventive (good for large screen TV).
Lynn and her husband Dave Morris are Quakers, like the Salters. Together they run Journeymen Theatre, writing and performing their own plays on social issues. Lynn has depicted Ada at community theatres and Quaker meeting houses all around the country.
This play was first performed at Sands in 2016 and made a strong impact, with local people emotional at seeing Ada depicted in the heart of Rotherhithe, which was part of her mayoral Borough of Bermondsey in the 1920s.
It was a delight to welcome Lynn back for the centenary. How appropriate that her final performance was given here!
