City Hope Church, Bermondsey, SE16.
Celebrated singer-songwriters Silvia Balducci and Adam Beattie performed a unique double-bill in honour of Ada (born 20 July 1866).
We were delighted to welcome a full audience of 75 people!
In 2022 as we face a climate emergency, housing crisis and global pandemic, Ada’s devotion to the causes of environment, housing and public health appears more farsighted and relevant than ever.
Our wonderfully talented musicians come from very different backgrounds, but share with Ada the same concern that people should be able to live a peaceful, happy life in healthy surroundings. Together they created a moving celebration of the Salter ethos.
Silvia Balducci opened with a solo first half of passionate songs about working conditions and human rights, drawing the parallel between early 20th century Bermondsey and the deprivation of other times and other places. Then Adam Beattie with his melodious backing group performed a delightfully wide range of numbers, including the amusing ‘The Boy Done Good’ and culminating with his deeply emotional ‘Song of One Hundred Years’.
Many thanks to impresario, Eleanor Thorn of TunedIn London for an inspiring evening!
And to City Hope Church SE16 for the perfect venue.
