Inspired by the centenary, Southwark’s Public Health department based its away-day for senior management on the Salters and their vision as pioneers of public health.
The event started with a lunchtime walking workshop with local TRA chair Sheila Taylor and Sue McCarthy of Capital Walks in London, learning about the legacy of Ada and Alfred and introducing local communities and challenges they face. Participants continued the workshop at Cherry Garden Hall, where there was also be a Salter Centenary exhibition on Ada’s garden cottages.
They spent the afternoon discussing modern public health challenges for our local communities and looking at what learning can be applied from the radical and innovatory approaches to health care set by Ada and Alfred Salter.
Congratulations to our Public Health team on learning from history!
