As part of the centenary celebrations Southwark Park Cricket Club invited Raunds Town Cricket Club from Ada’s home town to play a friendly match in our park. Sadly this fun, community event has had to be postponed!
Raunds has a long cricketing tradition. Before Covid they had two Senior teams playing, plus three Junior teams. Since Covid however, fewer players have been available, and they were unable to get a team together to play in London.
Southwark Park is a keen new club, re-establishing cricket as a popular sport in the park. This year they have run three teams: Friendly XI, Playing XI and Junior. They are family-orientated, encouraging women’s and young people’s cricket, and providing coaching under the ECB’s All Stars programme for 5-8 year olds and Dynamos programme for 8-11 year olds.
We wish both teams every success and hope the match will be possible at some future stage!
