Hedges on the Dickens Estate
Hedges have been suddenly appearing around the Dickens Estate during the last few years. In this Salter centenary year residents want to plant more hedges and green the whole estate!
In 2018 people at Tupman House applied to Southwark Council for funding and planted hedgerows along their section of Jamaica Road. The following year the same was done at Rudge House, and then most recently around Wrayburn House.
These hedges are now established, thriving well and completely transforming the appearance of the area. They form a protective barrier against traffic pollution on Jamaica Road, making the environment healthier for residents. And the additional greenery makes everywhere look very much more attractive and welcoming.
The project met with unanimous enthusiasm, so residents applied to Tideway for funding to green the whole estate. In April they were awarded the necessary grant from the Community Enhancement Fund. Exciting news!
