Salter Lecture 2023 for Quaker Yearly Meeting

The horrible, wonderful truth about climate: How facing that truth changes everything.

Professor Rupert Read

The Salter Lecture is an annual event organised by the Quaker Socialist Society. This year it was given by environmental philosopher Rupert Read and coincided with Extinction Rebellion’s major climate protest.

Rupert Read is a Quaker, Green Party activist and tireless writer on the climate crisis. In 2022 he published: ‘Why Climate Breakdown Matters' and 'Do You Want To Know The Truth?'; the latter is available to download free-of-charge.

The photo alongside shows Rupert spending time with the Salter statues in Bermondsey, which he described as a very moving experience.
