The QSS held its first Book Group meeting (via Zoom) and discussed ‘Ada Salter: Pioneer of Ethical Socialism’ by Graham Taylor.

The author introduced the book and answered questions from participants.

Ada was brought up as a Methodist and Alfred was an atheist when they met. However the Salters both became Quakers, largely due to their unswerving commitment to pacifism.

The discussion focused on their concept of ethical socialism. 

The Salters devoted their lives not just to peace, but also to environmental issues and social reforms such as housing, working conditions and public health.

Their vision feels even more relevant than ever for the future of our whole world.
