Community Orchard at Rouel Road

A new community orchard is being developed on the Rouel Road estate, with 24 fruit trees surrounded by 135 metres of fruiting hedge.

This idea came from the Rouel Blue Garden Club. Together with Trees for Bermondsey, Rouel Road TRA and the adjoining St James’s Primary School, they organised 60 community volunteers to do planting non-stop over two week-ends in December. The trees and hedges were provided by the council.

Generous advice has been provided throughout by The Orchard Project and London National Park City.

The orchard will be open for all, and the school will be able to use it as an outdoor classroom and extra play area in fine weather. It will be cared for by the Garden Club, TRA and estate maintenance team.
